In the spring and summer of 2018, ACSI headquarters tasked ACSIMD to inform our Maryland schools and to survey the position of each school’s leadership regarding potential legal action against MSDE. The result of our surveys and phone calls did not reveal a consensus to move forward with legal action at this time.
Several reasons contributed to the lack of consensus among our schools, including legitimate differences in admissions standards, inconsistent and unpredictable actions taken by MSDE, and varying levels of risk tolerance.
Some of our schools have been deemed in compliance with the policy and are participating in one of the funding programs. Some schools have elected to forfeit participation because of the policy, and some have been denied participation by MSDE.
The Anti-Discrimination Policy and actions of MSDE toward our schools continues to be a significant concern. Please watch for further information and recommended actions as the new legislative session begins in January.
